Public Invited to name that Bridge At Lawley Village in Telford!
27th January 2016
Members of the public are being encouraged to put forward ideas for the name of a new footbridge which has just been installed at Lawley Village in Telford.
Lawley Village Developer Group (LVDG) has launched a competition for the best suggestion ‐ which will see the lucky winner receive vouchers worth £250 to spend at Lawley Square.
They will also see their own name displayed alongside the winning name on the bridge and will be invited to cut the ribbon as guest of honour at its official opening!
The new footbridge, which cost 400,000 and is constructed from Steel, crosses Lawley Drive and provides a convenient link between Church Croft / Clips Moor on Phase 1A and Turold Mews on Phase 3 of Lawley Village.
Guy Scott, Director for LVDG, says: "We are delighted to launch this exciting competition to name the new footbridge at Lawley Village, following its successful installation.
"I'd urge people to put their thinking caps on, put forward their favourite suggestion and have a chance at being a small part of history, as the winning name will be used for many years to come!"
With the local area's rich natural and industrial heritage, competition entrants can take inspiration from a host of landmarks, local historical events or famous former residents when considering a name for the new footbridge.
Telford, for example, is named after famous civil engineer Thomas Telford, who engineered many road and rail projects in Shropshire, while Abraham Darby's Iron Bridge gave its name to the Ironbridge Gorge which it spans. The picturesque surrounding countryside, dominated by the iconic Wrekin, could also provide a source of inspiration.
To enter the competition, entrants should email their suggestion to email@example.com along with the reason for their choice. The competition is open to entries until Friday 26th February 2016.
